Le vin est une fête. At once the name of Elian da Ros’ red blend ode to French wine and a simple phrase to describe what it feels like to drink all of his offerings. About 20 hectares in the Côtes du Marmandais are planted to Bordeaux and Southwest varieties alike, offering a playground for Elian da Ros to express a range of styles: His training in Alsace shines through in Coucou Blanc, and his reds move from crushable to contemplative.

Generally Elian uses native yeast and concrete tanks for vinification, but his methods can change each year to meet the grapes. Whatever the methods, Elian da Ros has firmly established himself as a champion of a historically underrated region.

The Wines

Côtes du Marmandais Chante Coucou

A blend of da Ros’ red varietals from La Gravette results in its flagship wine, ready to drink now or amplified with a few years aging. Varieties are fermented and aged for 24 months in barrel separately, then blended. Wine rests for 9 months “en masse” before bottling.

Côtes du Marmandais Coucou Blanc

From the desk of Elian: “Floral nose, full bodied, and fresh, it starts with acidity followed by aromas of citrus, exotic fruit, and mirabelle plums.”

Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, and Semillon reveal a lighter, brighter side of Southwest white blends.

Côtes du Marmandais Outre Rouge

Sitting somewhere between a red and a rosé. This is mostly local varietal Abouriou, and Malbec, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc shore up the party. Carbonic maceration, direct press, and saignée are all deployed to make this easy-drinking but rich wine. Sur-lie in foudre.

Elian: "I chose semi-carbonic maceration as my way of expressing this wine, but I didn’t want to hide the terroir or the character of the grape. Abouriou is a fruity wine with a touch of spice wrapped up in soft and supple tannins."

Mostly Merlot with a smattering of Aboriou fermented whole cluster. Elian and Sandrine created this one to showcase a more lighthearted side of Merlot. Only available in magnum size.
