CHATEAU FONTVERT

Once covered with olives, cherries, and truffles, today Chateau Fontvert produces grapes that retain striking natural acidity.

Domaine Overview

Year Founded: 1598

Winemaker: Jérôme Monod

Location: Lourmarin, Northern Rhône

Size: 20 hectares

Grapes: Mourvedre, Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino

Farming: Certified organic and biodynamic

At the foothills of the Luberon Mountains on limestone and sandy marl soils, Chateau Fontvert boasts what we think are some of the best vineyard conditions in the Southern Rhône. Nearly four centuries after Fontvert’s founding, Jérôme Monod and his family took over to rehabilitate the vines and eventually started an in-house wine label. Fontvert is incredibly picturesque, its grapes are harvested by hand and fermented with native yeast, and the wines continually challenge what we know and expect from the Rhône.
